Skydiving!
During my three day trip to Byron Bay I decided I wanted to go skydiving. I really don't know where I got this idea from, but once I have something set in my mind I'm probably going to do it. So I went to the trip advisor at my hostel and I planned a 6:50 AM pick-up for skydiving in Byron Bay. The biggest tip they give to people who are about to skydive the next day is not to go scuba diving or drink any alcohol. So, the next day I got picked up from my hostel to the skydiving place. It took about ten minutes to get there by bus. Once I got there I had to be weighed and sign waivers. Once that was finished I had to get goggles, put on the appropriate skydiving gear, and be taught the proper procedure for skydiving. After all that they make you record a video of yourself in case you die during the jump. This is the one thing that threw me off. I couldn't take the video seriously and I didn't prepare for what was going to say if those were my last words. Now that the scary part was over it was time to get on the plane and get ready for take off. it took about ten minutes to get up to 14,000 feet. When it was my turn to jump I had to tilt my head back, cross my arms, and curl my legs under the plane. At this point I was thinking, "How did I get myself into this?" Once you jump all you can do is scream because you're free falling at about 200mph until you spread your arms and it's about 125mph. everyone keeps asking what it felt like to skydive, but it's honestly so hard to describe unless you do it yourself. If I were to describe it to anything it would be going on a rollercoaster, but x100. It's the biggest natural rush you can get because there's just so much adrenaline rushing through your body. One the parachute was opened I was just floating and it gave you time to really appreciate the view and I even got to steer the parachute for a little. Honestly, Landing time is the hardest part of skydiving because you have to keep your legs lifted and then start running when you hit the ground. My advice is if you ever have the chance to go skydiving you should do it. It was a lot of fun and wasn't as scary as I thought it was going to be.
