Melbs is the place to be!
This past weekend I took a three day trip to Melbourne, Victoria. It's a two hour flight from the Gold Coast Airport in Coolanagatta to the Melbourne Airport in Tullamarine so, I would compare it to flying from New York to Florida in the US. Melbourne is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Victoria, making it the second-most populous city in Australia. It has a population of 4,641,636 as of 2016, and its inhabitants are called Melburnians. When I arrived at the airport it took about 30 minutes by bus to get to Southern Cross Station and about a 20 minute walk from the SCS to my hostel, Nomads. The climate in Melbourne was very different to the climate back at Surfers Paradise in Queensland. The season right now is about mid-fall so if I were back in the US it would be the middle of November. Surfers Paradise is still warm ranging from 77-70°F. Melbourne was a bit cooler in temperature and reminded me of fall in New York. The leaves were changing, it was brisk, and it was windy. Melbourne was close to 67-50°F. Out of all the cities I've been to in Australia, Melbourne reminded me of a less crowded and busy NYC. Even though Melbourne is a fairly new city it is rich with history which I really enjoyed learning about. The reason why Melbourne is the second most crowded city in Australia is because there was a gold rush along the Yarra River making it the richest city in Australia at the time. Melbourne was also at first blessed with a galaxy of names: Bear-purt, Bearburp, Bearbury, Bearport,Bareheep, Barebrass, Doutta Galla,Dutergalla, Glenelg, and Batmania.
