A Day Trip to Coolangatta and Snapper Rocks

Yesterday, all of the Marist KEI students took a trip to Coolangatta, Queensland, where we visited Snapper Rocks and Froggy Beach. The journey took about an hour by tram and bus, and it was absolutely worth it. The area is unbelievably beautiful and makes for the perfect day trip from the Gold Coast.

When we first arrived, we spent some time at a rock pool along the ocean. It was a great place to relax and take in the scenery, at least until a Portuguese man o' war jellyfish also know as a bluebottle was pushed into the pool by a wave. Every so often, a large wave would crash against the rocks and spray everyone nearby, leaving us completely soaked.

After spending time at the rock pool, we explored the area on foot and then spent the rest of the day relaxing on the beach. The views were incredible, and the water was crystal clear. It was the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy another beautiful day in Australia.

Later that evening, we headed to Burleigh Heads, where we watched a fire show and listened to a drum circle. It was such a unique experience and a great way to end the day. The atmosphere was relaxed, and there was a strong sense of community among everyone gathered there.

Earlier in the week, I had another interesting encounter with Australian wildlife. While walking along the beach, I found a Glaucus atlanticus, more commonly known as a blue dragon. Although it looks small and harmless, it is actually a highly venomous sea slug that can deliver a powerful sting.

So, if there's one lesson I learned from this experience, it's this: don't pick up unfamiliar animals, especially in Australia!

Overall, Coolangatta, Snapper Rocks, and Froggy Beach made for an amazing day trip. Between the stunning beaches, beautiful scenery, unique wildlife, and memorable experiences, it was another reminder of how incredible Australia truly is.
